And The Artist Was...

Dear Students,

My name is Dr. Lindsay Smith, and I need your help! I work at the British Museum, and there is a mystery that needs to be solved. Yesterday Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler dropped off a painting, and we don’t know who the artist was. We need to make sure we display the work of art with the correct artist, or people won’t think we are a credible museum.

Here is where your help comes in. Each of you will be part of a group. Each one of you will spend time researching a specific artist (we are sure it’s either William Hogarth,Thomas Lawrence, Anthony Van Dyck, or John Constable). You will spend time familiarizing yourself with your artist. Then you will have to decide who painted our mystery painting.

So you need to convince the staff here at the museum. You must write a formal business letter and use specific examples (5-7) to convince us you know who the mystery artist is.

Good luck…and hurry!

Dr. Lindsay
